Accused Stalker Asked: 'However Suppose I Might Be Madeleine?'
A female accused with stalking Kate McCann allegedly left her a phone message which questioned: "what if I am Madeleine?"
The defendant, twenty-four, who court testimony revealed has consistently claimed she was the vanished Madeleine McCann, and her co-defendant are standing trial charged with stalking Kate and Gerry McCann from June 2022 and February the current year.
On Monday, the tribunal heard communication data and information retrieved from phones documented Ms Wandelt consistently asking Madeleine's mother for a biological test throughout 2023 and 2024.
Madeleine's disappearance in 2007 - at the age of three during a trip in Portugal - is one of the most publicized investigations and is still open.
'I Don't Want Money'
Another voicemail, presented in court, captured Ms Wandelt saying: "I realize I'm overweight and unattractive like Madeleine had been, but I believe what I feel."
While another instance of Ms Wandelt's recordings with Mrs McCann's answerphone said: "Imagine there is a small chance that I am she? What happens next? Wouldn't that be significant for you?"
"I am not seeking money, I maintain a life here in Poland, I just want to know," she added.
The tribunal was informed that through electronic messages, mobile messages and communications, Ms Wandelt asked for a genetic test, sent childhood photos to her phone in a attempt to display a likeness to Mrs McCann's missing daughter, and claimed to have "recollections" from a youth with the McCanns.
Robert Jones, an intelligence analyst with law enforcement who gathered the evidence, advised the court there "seemed to lack any answers" from Mrs McCann.
Ms Wandelt additionally reached out to close associates of the McCanns, based on the communication logs.
On 9 October 2024, the father picked up a communication from Ms Wandelt to his wife's phone, stating she had "a wrong number."
During that incident Ms Wandelt deposited a message on Mrs McCann's voicemail declaring "I won't give up and I will prove my claim."
The court heard Mrs Spragg established a association through digital means with Ms Wandelt preceding joining her on a trip to the McCanns' residence in Leicestershire in that winter.
Call logs showed Mrs Spragg had contacted through messaging service to Mrs McCann to say the press had characterized Ms Wandelt as "emotionally disturbed" but that she ought to be taken seriously in the months leading up to the trip to the village, that area, in that winter.
